TOPIC: First timers --one day in Ohio

First timers --one day in Ohio 4 years 2 weeks ago #646

We recently moved to Indianapolis (lifelong Californians!) And we have wanted to do this for years! We only have one day--so we plan to do Ohio...What are the best stops? Best food? Best thing you found in Ohio? Counting down the days!

Our personal favorite is Celina, OH. The whole city pours out for this event. VanWert also has a great turnout and I would highly suggest the York Woods (north of Greenville) - lots of people set up in a nice shaded wooded area. Good Luck !!

I agree with hattrick6898 about Celina. The Mercelina Park area around the lake has many vendors. For eating you can try Pullman Bay which is just up the road from the park. If you are there on Saturday make sure you try the older homes in the city and then head south.

Safe travels and enjoy

I agree with Celina! Fantastic little town on Grand Lake! They have a fantastic restaurant right on 127 called The Willow (burgers, fries), or another amazing option is Celina Wine Store (AMAZING pizza and tacos!)!

We are day 2 into our wonderful Ohio adventure (staying in Richmond,IN) and are having a great time! No awesome finds yet, but can't wait to see what the southern region of Ohio brings! Next year, Kentucky/Tennessee!

THANK YOU so much hattrick6898, PittCouple and Cukes123! We are also from Indianapolis and this was our first trip, we took your advice about Celina and VanWert and were so thrilled at all you suggested! We stayed at the Quality Inn in St. Mary's and it was wonderful, the bed was so comfortable, the staff and hotel top notch! We ate at the Willow, so cute and the owner was a hoot! We ate at the Pullman Bay right on the lake too! The park was right by the Pullman Bay restaurant and we spent all morning there, great people and great stuff!!

We also headed south to Greenville and "The Woods" another great stop! We weren't very impressed by some sales south of Eaton, in the "7 mile" stretch, but that was about as far south as we had time for.

We were originally going to start in Cincinnati and head south (got a Triptik and all) but the day before we left I saw your posts and changed up our route! Worked out great because we missed all the rain that hit south of 70 and had great weather.

Thank you again so much, you helped to make our first time a wonderful experience and we will be back next year!!

Glad to hear that you had a good time. The Quality Inn in St Mary's is our preferred place to stay when we do Ohio. We love the Mercelina Park Area and the entire Ohio route. We did Ohio 3 straight years and every year it got better with more and more vendors. Hope you plan on doing it next year, 7 years running for us and we look forward to it every year!

That's awesome to hear. We've been doing Kentucky and northern Tennessee the past 2 years and have missed Ohio. Deciding if we want to change things up a bit for next year.

We did Kentucky this year, basically from Frankfort to Liberty. We weren't able to shop Saturday due to a prior family commitment but were just talking and are really thinking about heading back to Ohio next year. We may save Tennessee and Kentucky for when we move to Virginia in a few years.
